Marcus leaned down, his lips close to Danny’s ear. “That you’re the one who’s alone. You always have been. And you always will be.”
But Marcus held up a hand to silence him. “Is that Captain Reeves?”
“You wanted to play, Danny,” Marcus said calmly. “So play.”
The conversation had turned sour. Danny was needling Marcus about his wife, Elena.
“You see, Danny, Elena didn’t call me tonight because I asked her to. She called me an hour ago, frantic. She said someone had been leaving notes in her crew locker. Notes about her schedule. Her routes. Her layover hotels. She was scared.”
“She asked Captain Reeves to help her set a trap. He volunteered to stay in her room tonight, visible from the window, to see who was watching her. The second glass of wine was for show.”
