Sam and Jay sit on the porch. The laptop is now a planter for flowers ( approved). In its place: an old-fashioned leather journal , already half-filled with Sam’s handwriting.
Sam explains that the external hard drive containing —scanned letters, death certificates, a rare recording of Alberta’s voice from 1923—is corrupted. Data recovery will cost $3,000, which they don’t have.
