The last entry reads: “The children followed the clown into the canal. I saw their shadows standing in the flames.” She cross-references with microfilm — the 1910 Derry Herald reported “9 children missing after canal fire” but later revised to “3 drowned, accident.”

Maya reads aloud from Marsh’s diary: “It lives in the remembering. Starve it of belief, and it sleeps.” Suddenly, Samira says: “What diary?” — she has no memory of the last 10 minutes.
