We reunite with Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), now living fractured lives. Owen has retreated to a remote cabin, building a house off the grid, haunted by the memory of his raptor, Blue. Claire has pivoted from capitalist park operator to dinosaur-rights activist, leading a failed Senate hearing to save the animals—a brilliantly cynical scene where a congressman dismisses the dinosaurs as “assets” and “liabilities.” The film wastes no time in critiquing modern apathy: we only care about extinction when it’s profitable.

And Maisie, her voice trembling, says:

The film also confronts the ethics of resurrection. The dinosaurs are not “innocent” animals. They are genetic chimeras, edited with frog DNA, created for profit. But as Maisie says, they are alive. The film refuses a simple answer: should Claire have let the volcano wipe them out? Should Owen have left Blue to die? The final shot—a Tyrannosaurus roaring in a zoo, a Pteranodon landing on the Las Vegas Strip, and a Mosasaur swimming past a surfer—is not triumphant. It is ominous. The world has changed, and not for the better. Chris Pratt brings more weariness than charm, a welcome evolution. Bryce Dallas Howard is excellent, shedding the high heels for mud-soaked desperation. But the revelation is Isabella Sermon as Maisie. Her quiet, haunted eyes carry the film’s emotional weight. In the end, the film’s true monster is not the Indoraptor. It is the human heart: sentimental enough to clone a daughter, greedy enough to sell a species, and arrogant enough to think we can control any of it. When the Brachiosaurus disappears into the ash, we are not watching a dinosaur die. We are watching an innocence die—the innocence of the first Jurassic Park , where dinosaurs were magic. In Fallen Kingdom , they are ghosts. And ghosts, as the film reminds us, never truly leave. They just find a new house to haunt.

The result is the most Gothic, emotionally complex, and aesthetically bold film in the franchise—a hybrid of disaster film, haunted house thriller, and moral fable about extinction, commodification, and the blurred line between preservation and playing God. The film opens not with fanfare, but with silence. Three years after the Jurassic World incident, Isla Nublar is no longer a wonderland; it is a graveyard. The volcano, Mt. Sibo, has become active, threatening to turn the island into a second Pompeii. In a haunting pre-credits sequence, mercenaries retrieve the bone of the Indominus rex from the lagoon—a scene dripping with dread—only to be stalked by the Mosasaurs . The Indoraptor is unleashed. Unlike the Indominus, which was a force of chaotic intelligence, the Indoraptor is a slasher-villain. It stalks prey through glass hallways, climbs walls like a spider, and grins with unnerving human-like malice. Bayona shoots it like John Carpenter’s Halloween : low angles, creeping shadows, and a ticking clock. The sequence where the creature reaches through a child’s bedroom ceiling, finger tapping on the glass, is pure nightmare fuel. The Indoraptor is not a dinosaur; it is a weapon. And weapons, the film argues, are made to kill without conscience. The auction sequence is the film’s moral crucible. We see villains from Russia, China, and the Middle East bidding on Gallimimus , Raptors , and finally the Indoraptor . The scene is grotesque not because of violence, but because of banality. These are businessmen treating living beings as luxury goods. When Owen and Claire sabotage the auction, chaos erupts—not heroically, but messily. A Stygimoloch smashes walls. The Indoraptor escapes. The old order (the auction) collapses, but what replaces it is not safety.

J.A. Bayona’s direction is the film’s greatest asset. He shoots the eruption with Apocalypse Now scope, the mansion with Rebecca gloom, and the Indoraptor with Alien stealth. Michael Giacchino’s score weaves John Williams’ original themes into a requiem—the Brachiosaurus death scene uses a slowed, mournful version of the Jurassic Park theme, turning nostalgia into sorrow. The film is not without faults. The first act’s exposition is clunky. Some side characters (Justice Smith’s Franklin, for example) exist only to scream. The logic of the auction—why buy dinosaurs for a military that can already build missiles?—is thin. And some fans resented the shift from “dinosaurs are cool” to “dinosaurs are tragic bio-weapons.” And Maisie, her voice trembling, says: The film

Yet these flaws feel minor against the film’s ambition. Fallen Kingdom is the Empire Strikes Back of the Jurassic series: dark, morally complex, and ending on a note of profound uncertainty. It dares to ask: If we can resurrect the dead, should we? And if we do, who are we to then lock them in a cage? Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is not a perfect film, but it is a brave one. It killed the island. It made the dinosaurs refugees. It gave us a child clone who chooses chaos over extinction. And it set the stage for Dominion , where humans and dinosaurs must coexist—not in harmony, but in an uneasy, bloody cohabitation.

    I also have a Fabtotum, bought used on ebay and I slowly trying to understand this machine by the time. Actually I try to mount an Touchscreen to the raspberry, according to this hints:

    Unfortunally, I have no idia how to “modifying the custom image”.  I probably still have an understanding problem of the infrastructure from the fabtotum… I thought, that these commands can be sent via putty (SSH), but it is not working this way… Do you have me a hint, that would be great!

    1. Hi Johannes,
      the Fabtotum has two brains: The Totumduino board, holding an 8-bit Arduino-like MCU running a modified Marlin firmware for actual printer control, and a Raspberry Pi, which is responsible for the Web-Interface, some monitoring tasks etc. The instructions in the link you mention are directed against the Raspberry Pi, and yes, you should be able to log in to the Raspberry via SSH/Putty. Can you be a bit more clear where your problem starts? Can’t you reach the Fabtotum via SSH? can’t you log in? Don’t the commands work? What error messages do you get?
      Btw.: There is a Facebook Fabtotum Users Group which is rather helpful!

  2. Hello love the idea but actually my frienda fab totum is with another problem the hotend ribbon cable is not working could u help me if u know where can i get a new one? When thr machine turns on not all the lights get green  and we are trying to figure it out

    is your fabtotum running 2 belts or one ? i’ve got mine with disassembled carriage but it had one continues belt on it. From all the cad files and photos online it seems that it runs 2 belts. Do you have a photo of head carriage “opened” by chance ? would help me a lot 🙂 thanks

    1. I *think* it is one belt, but admittedly I am not 100% sure. It’s the standard Indiegogo-Campaign version. To mod my printing head it was not necessary to dismantle the head carrier, so I cannot share any photos. However, if you’re on Facebook, join the Fabtotum users group – there you will likely find someone who can help here.

  4. thanks, it should be 2 belts, but seems like they managed to route it continuously in the carriage and just anchor 4 points of it. maybe it saved some time during production (?), but that caused a bit of “extra” belt inside the carriage – not the nicest solution, but in the other hand fabtotum is full of parts attached by glue, strange + hard to access bolts etc. the only thing they did right was non-crossing corexy idea (not implementation), imho

    1. The initial Indiegogo version indeed has many design flaws, I’d agree. Supposedly, the second generation was a bit better. And while I agree with you, I’d still say that Fabtotum is a decent printer, and in some regards it was ahead of its time. I’ve a second 3D machine by now, but in terms of user interface, the web interface of Fabtotum is much more advanced than what others do. Something I’d recommend to keep an eye on is the E3D toolchanger platform. They adopted the CoreXY system, and it looks *really* promising. And E3D does things right, when they do it!

      1. i know e3d and the toolchanger. cool stuff and it’s nice of them to give a credit to the fabtotum (in one of the blog posts, i believe) as toolchanger is using same corexy non-crossing idea.
        I would recommend you to check another cool toolchanger – https://jubilee3d.com/, if you’re not familiar.
        And while talking about fabtotum GUI – if you’re ditching all the rest of the tools and using it as dumb 3dprinter – klipper firwmare is kind of compatible (im working on it now) with it and arguably better than marlin or reprap. It’s well praised by Voron community, another great 3d printing project.
