J. R. Audio Engineering Labs Date: April 14, 2026 Abstract The modern project studio faces a trilemma: pristine analog signal path, ultra-low round-trip latency (RTL) for software monitoring, and intuitive physical control. The Spektrum Audio A1 enters a saturated market dominated by Universal Audio, RME, and Focusrite. This paper presents a comprehensive technical and practical evaluation of the A1, focusing on its novel Dual-Phase Converter Architecture , its hybrid DSP-native processing, and its ergonomic "Flow Touch" interface. Results indicate that the A1 achieves a class-leading RTL of 1.8ms at 32 samples/96kHz while delivering a dynamic range of 129dB (A-weighted), rivaling converters twice its price. 1. Introduction For the last decade, audio interface innovation has stagnated. Manufacturers have focused either on high-channel-count (MOTU, Behringer) or on analog emulation (Universal Audio). The Spektrum Audio A1 addresses the "bedroom producer to professional" gap: a 2-in/4-out interface that offers transparent recording, zero-latency DSP monitoring with effects, and a future-proof connectivity suite (USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, ADAT, and MIDI I/O). 2. Hardware & Build Quality The A1 is housed in a unibody aluminum chassis (180mm x 150mm x 45mm), weighing 1.2kg. Unlike plastic competitors, the A1 feels inertial—critical for desktop stability when inserting/removing XLR cables.
