Tarzan Movie List May 2026

Abstract Since his creation by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912, Tarzan of the Apes has become one of the most frequently adapted characters in film history. This paper provides a complete, annotated list of theatrical and notable television films featuring the Lord of the Jungle. More than a simple enumeration, it traces the evolution of Tarzan’s cinematic portrayal—from silent serials and Olympic athlete stars to animated musicals and modern CGI reboots. The list is organized into six distinct eras, highlighting key actors, production trends, and cultural shifts. Introduction Over 100 films have featured Tarzan, making him second only to Sherlock Holmes in cinematic longevity. Unlike literary adaptations that strive for fidelity, Tarzan films have consistently reinvented the character to fit contemporary tastes—transforming Burroughs’s educated English nobleman into a grammatically challenged wildman, a romantic lead, a camp hero, or a CGI warrior. This paper lists all major Tarzan movie releases, excluding only minor fan films or direct-to-video documentaries. Part 1: The Silent Era (1918–1929) The first wave established Tarzan as a serial action hero. These films were often shot on location and featured athletic, unknown leads.
