But Maya was a ghost hunter.
A new window opened on Maya’s physical PC—unauthorized, unsolicited. It was a live feed from her own apartment’s security camera. She watched herself sitting at her desk, backlit by her monitors. The camera panned, impossibly, and zoomed in on the VMOS Pro window on her screen.

The VMOS Pro environment flickered. Instead of the usual crisp, clean Android 12 interface, the screen bled into a grainy, sepia-toned desktop. The icons were archaic: a pixelated phone dialer, a text messenger that looked like a relic from 2010, and a single, unnamed folder.
